For the purposes of putting my blog in context, it seems appropriate to share a little about myself. From a work experience perspective I have had a number of different careers. Having attained degrees in commerce (finance major) and law, I spent more than a decade advising companies and financial institutions on complex tax structuring. I have worked at the core of major multinational professional services organisations, advising businesses in a range of countries across Australia, Europe, South Africa and Asia. I have been responsible for the growth of revenue and the strengthening of client relationships. I have twice (10 years apart) established completely new businesses which were both innovators and disruptors in their sectors (retail and services). My understanding of financials, business systems, IT, OH&S and sales development is drawn from being at the coal face of small but fast growing businesses as well as large international organisations.
Along the way I have consulted to a range of for profit and not-for-profit organisations as well as sitting on the board of a not-for-profit school for eight years and being a member of the advisory committee of a sizeable charity.
I am female and on the wrong side of 45 (just). I have three teenage children, the oldest and youngest of which, respectively, are finishing and starting high school in 2013. In addition to English I am fluent in two other languages and can communicate in a third, as well as being up to date with the kids’ txt spk ;).
