Why 1000 coffees?

making coffeeAs can be seen from the intro below, this blog was initially about the journey as a non-exec director. 14 years and a few board roles later, I am taking a break from a corporate focus and travelling in Europe for six months with my husband.  Coffee is still important in my life, but I suspect there will be other reflections and experiences to document along the way as well. You are welcome to follow me on this journey…..

Original intro….
It was towards the end of 2011 that I decided to pursue a portfolio of non-executive directorships and consulting work having had executive roles for 25 years.

Following the advice of a number of people, I enrolled in the AICD Company Directors Course.  Twelve months later, I have a wealth of experience in the idiosyncrasies of Sydney’s baristas, but as yet have not been able to secure a directorship!  Some time during the first part of last year, a female non-executive director (NED) to whom I had been introduced told me that it would take a thousand coffees to achieve what I was hoping to achieve.  I started counting….

Twelve months after completing the AICD course I have decided to write this blog. It is my intention to share my experiences of the past twelve months and the continuing process (I’m not giving up!). I have been lucky enough to meet some very experienced people – people who have been generous with their time and advice and I hope to be able to share this with others.  Perhaps those who are seeking to utilise their own background and skills in a similar way to me may benefit from some of the advice I have received and from my own experiences.

I intend to update this blog regularly. You might like to subscribe and keep up with my progress….
